Sweetheart Stylin'

3 October 2014

Whenever I wear ballerina pumps, I always feel younger. This may be because I wore them in my tween years so I automatically associate them with my younger self. This pair of pumps have bows on, which is why I think they're super cute and sweet because they're so simple. The pumps have a element of innocence in their sensible but stylish appearance. Today's dress is a top favourite of mine, it's something I have owned for years but just can't seem to let go. Sometimes there's one item in your closet that you just can't depart with - it's physically impossible to release, the items doesn't even have to fit, but it has some sort of memory attached to it and nostalgia isn't always a bad thing. Fortunately, my dress still fits even though I think I about it around five or more years ago. It's not too old, but this piece has had it's fair share of the limelight. When I was a lot younger, well, maybe 13, I used to spin around in dresses (I occasionally still do) to see how high the hemline would fly. This dress was always perfect for twirling because it gave you that 'princess' feel, which looking back it kind of cute. I really like the style and the length of the dress, because I'm quite tall, a lot of dresses are often too short for me. When I originally bought this dress I was probably only 5 feet and 6 inches so it would have been a little longer. 5 inches later, and this dress still fits like a glove and is an ideal length. I've found that it can be styled for so many different evens, the colour helps. A dress with pockets is a dress that will immediately catch my attention. Over the top, I'm wearing a cotton coral cardigan to keep me warm.

Treasured Trainers

23 September 2014

About 4 or 5 years ago, I would be the first person to be immediately hostile towards trainers worn for any other reason that sport. I couldn't be more irritated by trainers and jeans worn together. Today, everything's a little different - although I still struggle to accept a pair of trainers such as the Air Max put together with a midi skirt or longer dress, but there's time for it to grow on me. Trainers with jeans were really popular when I was younger and I just couldn't stand it, especially white trainers with dark jeans, that look would aggravate me. Today I try to experiment more with my wardrobe, which means going out of my comfort zone, even if it's just baby steps. I've owned Nike trainers for a while, Nike is usually my go-to brand for sportswear, even if do pronounce it wrong. I've found that they have a wider variety of shoes, including the ridiculously popular Nike Roshe Run shoes which are worn by a large amount of people. I chose these darker pair of trainers which I actually picked up from the Nike section in Sports Direct (a sports store which sells items for the most amazing prices I've ever seen). I paired the navy shoes with jeans of a similar colour, and chose to go for super skinny jeans because I think they suit this type of shoe best. Because the design of the shoe is quite sleek and slim, baggier and wider fitter jeans wouldn't look as great. On top, I'm wearing a white, knitted 3/4 length jumper which also brings out the white in my trainers and brightens up the whole outfit. To finish the look I'm carrying my favourite oversized bag.

Gloomy Flamingos

30 May 2014

The weather, isn't that great. Yorkshire isn't used to a whole load of sunshine but a few rays would be nice. It's quite gloomy today and has rained which makes the sky seem even darker. I not a meteorologist myself, but it's not really supposed to rain as much approaching summer, and I'm looking forward to the warmer weather and occasional lazy days. My t-shirt today is quite summery, as it features a bight pattern that I absolutely love. I don't often wear colours that are too bright, simply because it means I will stand out and have attention on me, but this top is like a halfway point, as it's subtly eye-catching. The flamingo pattern is really detailed, and quite unique to any animal pattern I've seen before. I also love this tee because it's almost cropped, so it's perfect for the body-conscious because you can pair it with high-waisted jeans or skirt, and you have a simple but effective outfit. I often take advantage of this look because it's an easy way to like you effortlessly put effort into your outfit - if that makes sense. It remains on trend, without making yourself uncomfortable or insecure. Perfect!

SMART SKATER

26 May 2014

I have always been fond of blending trends, styles and colours - mixing them up to create a whole new look. If I'm ever asked to chose one set style or look for my entire wardrobe I'm always torn in two as I love the 'chic NYC girl' look, but I will still always be fond of a simple, casual style. It's Bank Holiday Monday in the UK which means a three-day weekend for most of us and luckily the sun has decided to say hello. Then again, I live in the North of England so it could be hail-stoning by the end of the day. Although the sun is out, the temperature is still quite low this morning so my bright blue coat is perfect for today - I would say it's one of my outfit obsessions because it becomes the statement piece of each outfit. When I first saw the coat, I was hesitant as it is very bright and stands out but sometimes that's what makes a great ensemble! I always think of this coat to have a more elegant tone to it, and I've paired it will casual pieces such as my skater dress and skater-like shoes. I really like these suede shoes, not only because they're suede, but they're touch and structures which actually makes them easier and comfortable to walk in. They're quite similar to the popular skater-shoe style designed for skateboarders and I absolutely love them, and they are great for the everyday casual style.

LEATHER PRINTS

22 May 2014

Eldwick, Bingley, West Yorkshire BD16, UK
It's  not long now until I no longer have to attend lessons and it's a time that couldn't come quick enough. No longer will I have to chose clothes according to rules or practicality. I may even have a pyjama day once a week as a reminder that I can wear any clothes during the day. But it's still Thursday and I have school so today I'm wearing this silk dress from TK Maxx that I originally bought for my holiday last year, but loved so much I thought it deserved an outing into the world. I really like the mix of colour in this dress, as it's like tie-dye or watercolours which I think is a great way to add colour to your wardrobe. The elasticated waist highlights more of a feminine figure to the dress rather than just a straight or t-shirt dress. My leather jacket is from Miss Selfridge which has become my go-to jacket for strange weather days because it's waterproof in case it decided to rain, but cool enough to wear in the sun and light enough to carry. My bag is from TK Maxx which I have been using as a school bag because it's just so big and there are about six compartments inside which defines me dream bag. Converse have also become my go-to shoe for school or a long day in general because they're just so comfortable for my feet. I have flat feet, which means there isn't that natural arch in the bottom of my feet, also means my feet can start to hurt after a while but this doesn't occur with Converse or high heels. I also adore Converse because most of their styles are unisex so I can wear men's or women's shoes in my size - a rare occurrence for most brands.
