California Car Keys

It's technically autumn, and I can't wait to wear all my favourite jackets and coats again and layer up for the chillier weather; but I just can't let go of good ol' summer fashion! After seeing these Cut Off Shorts on Polyvore I was reminded of summer again. They have a bleach-like acid wash to them which is one of my new favourite types of denim because it makes an outfit seem more exciting and adventurous at first glance. I paired the shorts with a navy top from H&M that has some lace detail and is cropped. I absolutely love the lace hem and think it's a perfect last-minute summer look. Lace is a fabric that always looks great no matter the colour or pattern because it's very intricate and feminine. I actually own the Nars Single Eyeshadow Compact in a darker colour that's a little closer to my skin tone, but as this set is strictly summer, I thought I would add a brighter colour to the wishlist. The soft yellow-green colour is longwearing which means it will last all day and I've found that Nars eyeshadows are really easily blended with other shadows to create a unique look. They can also be layered for a more dramatic effect, and this particular product comes in so many different colours - I can never just pick one.
The Gasoline Glamour Lady Sings The Blues Shades are 100% summer. From one of my favourite online stores, Nasty Gal, the floral rims scream festival and summertime. They're vintage inspired from Gasoline Glamour and have grey tinted lenses so you can actually see through them. I've had a few sunglasses that have a weird brown-yellow tint and I'm just not a fan. The pastel porcelain flowers are a pale blue which can be styled with plenty of different colours from the summer style palette. The blue Nars pencil is actually a Shadow Pencil while the other is a Lip Pencil. I was drawn to the shadow pencil due to the bright colour that could be used to blend with the eyeshadow, also by Nars. I chose the darker lip pencil to go with the MAC Lorde Collection Lipstick I had saved in my favourites. I've always been a fan of darker lip colours and they contrast well with a brighter eye. Monochrome Magic

5 September 2014

I think an monochrome pattern is something that's easily forgotten and definitely taken for granted. Sometimes I don't realise how valuable a simple black and white piece of clothing can be, it's like a short cut to effortless and chic style. Anything monochrome immediately reminds me of Audrey Hepburn and old school Givenchy. I spotted this dress during a last minute shop in Marks and Spencer, which I only usually go into for their amazing food. However, while shopping through their clothing section and taking a few minutes to drool over the 10ft post of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, I realised that M&S isn't as fuddy-duddy as I assumed. The clothes in there were so stylish! And high quality is always what I look for, which M&S never fails to deliver. I found a few items I liked but with the tight budget I currently sit on, I unfortunately couldn't buy it all. I did find this dress that was in the sale, and loved it. I like that the dress has such a simple design, and follows the skater style that's one of my favourites. I think the check pattern on the dress stands out more than some of the brightest items in my closet, making a magical monochrome moment. I tied this dress with my teeny tiny purse and my very favourite heels to finish the look.

Charcoal Flamingos

3 September 2014

Today's look is the ultimate casual get up. I think just about every school is back this week, and this is an outfit that I wore quite often in sixth form, especially during this time of the year because it was cloudy but still a little warm. I really like my flamingo top from Primark because it's so 'busy' and easily becomes the statement piece for the whole outfit. I've found that because it has quite an eye catching pattern, but uses limited colours, it's really easy to style with any sort of bottoms. Today's I'm wearing my favourite charcoal jeans that are almost like jeggings they're so comfy. But I think this t-shirt can be paired with skirts, shorts or jeans because of it's length too. It's not short enough to be a cropped top, but it's quite short so it can be paired with any sort of high-waisted piece. I've noticed this top has been quite popular from Primark, even seeing a few bloggers in it myself. To finish off this back-to-school style, I'm wearing classic hi-top All Stars which I think are the perfect shoe for school, and my oversized leather bag that's big enough to fit about anything in.

Velvet Splashes

2 September 2014

Velvet has always been one of my favourite fabrics because it's so 'jazzy' and exciting. A velvet dress is a really easy way to make an outfit seem more flamboyant because of the natural shimmer the fabric has. I'm obsessed with this dress that was made for me, that has splashes of velvet all over it in various colours. I think the brighter colours stand out a lot more because the background fabric is grey which makes a really simple design seem a little more zestful for autumn. I paired the dress with an oversized knitted cardigan from Primark that I've had for a while and is probably the most durable item of clothing I've ever bought from there. It's quite a chunky knit, which is perfect for gloomier weather like today because it keeps me really warm without having to wear a thicker jacket. My Chelsea boots are an essential for autumn because they're leather and so easy to dress for either a casual occasion or a more formal event. I've also found that these boots are versatile in what they can be worn with. I often weather them with dresses, but they can be paired with jeans or even shorts.

Acid Roll Ups

1 September 2014

A new month means a new backdrop. For just about everyone around the world, school is either in session or it begins this week. As a secondary school survivor, I can sympathise with those who were just like me, watching the minute hand on the clock move twice as slow as usual. I think today's outfit is perfect for those who don't wear uniform or are in sixth form because it's not too dull and doesn't break any major dress codes. If you do wear uniform, you could always keep a super simple outfit like this in mind for a non-uniform day, my school had quite a few. I'm absolutely crazy about this grey jumper I bought from TK Maxx. Not only was it one-of-a-kind in the store at the time, I bought it for £4.99. Even the cashier pointed out how brilliant the price was. When buying the jumper, I never realised how handy it would really be. The school I went to was a really fancy building (it was new), and had intelligent heating inside which wasn't always your best friend. The entire school was run by a computer-thing that controlled every digital aspect in the building, the computer just happened to struggle with the temperature. "Intelligent heating" just meant the building would turn on heaters if it was a little chilly outside, or air conditioning if it was cold. Some things were just meant to be run by humans. This jumper was perfect for the ever-changing climate at school because the elements of wool in the fibre keep me incredibly warm and cosy, but the jumper is a loose knit and relatively thin so I never over-heated. And as it's quite thin, I found it really easy to layer over.
My jeans were also a favourite for school because they make an outfit seem more exciting by the brighter colour and acid wash effect. Even though the effect is quite subtle, they brighten up my look. I decided to turn my jeans into roll-ups as I'm wearing hi-top Converse (another school essential) and they divide up my ensemble.
